On July 8th and 9th, 2025, an event will be held at the CNR ISPC headquarters in Naples dedicated to the presentation of the “Pilot Illuminated Manuscripts Hub,” one of the most innovative digital solutions developed by the H2IOSC project (Humanities and cultural Heritage Italian Open Science Cloud).
H2IOSC, coordinated by the National Research Council (CNR) and funded under the European Next Generation EU – PNRR M4C2 program, aims to create a national digital platform to facilitate access, reuse, and interoperability of cultural and scientific data, following the FAIR principles and open access practices. The project seeks to overcome data fragmentation in the humanities and cultural heritage sectors by providing a single access point for researchers, public institutions, and private entities.
The “Pilot Illuminated Manuscripts Hub” represents a significant innovation for the study and enhancement of illuminated manuscripts. This digital platform allows comprehensive exploration of texts, decorations, materials, artistic techniques, and the conservation status of manuscripts, thanks to advanced 2D and 3D visualization tools and the use of knowledge graphs to organize information.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with European infrastructures such as E-RIHS, CLARIN, and DARIAH, and benefits from the contributions of experts like Alessandra Chirivì (Technologist at CNR ISPC Lecce) and Eva Pietroni (Senior Researcher at CNR ISPC Rome).
The event will be a unique opportunity to deepen understanding of how digitalization is transforming research and conservation of cultural heritage, fostering new models of collaboration between academia, public administrations, and enterprises.
